NETWORKING INVITE TO SCMS STUDENTS, ALUMNI AND FACULTY LoneStar Leaguer 10/28/08
In most industries, the individuals you know play a significant role in your operations as those relationships are developed and networking opportunities are fostered. In the credit union movement, these relationships are even more paramount as they serve as the foundation for the “people helping people” philosophy, as well as informative outputs of helpful tips and advice. The Southwest CUNA Management School (SCMS) would like to take these relationships into the online world through a LinkedIn® group specifically designed for SCMS students, alumni and faculty to cultivate and maintain an electronic community and network of input and creativity.
“The Southwest CUNA Management School is exploring communication tools to enhance networking opportunities,” says Janine McBee, CUDE, CCUE, synergist for SCMS. “By establishing a group of knowledgeable SCMS staffers and students on LinkedIn®, we are able to get our messages across to one another in a resourceful website that appeals to all users and helps break down those ‘walls’ between social networking and business,” she adds.

Current LinkedIn® users will be able to sign in and view the group immediately while new visitors will be able to create an account through a brief registration process. This credit union networking group is designed for all SCMS professionals to help facilitate the sharing of innovations, ideas, challenges and opportunities. By interacting through an instantly updated and well-managed electronic community, all users are able to contribute content and learn from their fellow members.
LinkedIn® is an online community consisting of more than 30 million working professionals from more than 150 industries. The core belief governing the website is “relationships matter,” and once registered, members will have the opportunity to discover just how helpful LinkedIn® can be. Whether you are communicating with your co-workers, establishing new contacts, supporting new business opportunities, expanding your network of industry-related peers by being introduced to new like-minded individuals and companies or even discovering new job leads, LinkedIn® has the electronic tools you need to keep your professional relationships current and connected.
