Learning Never Stops

The road to leadership leads to many exciting and fulfilling destinations. But what happens when a leader reaches his or her destination?

It’s simple: they keep going.

Southwest CUNA Management School's Learning Never Stops program enables SCMS alumni, students, and credit union professionals to enhance their leadership development through continuing educational offerings.

Webinar: How Credit Unions Can Help Their Members Fight Elder Financial Exploitation

It is estimated individuals over the age of 60 lose more than $28 billion annually through financial exploitation.  The majority of the exploitation is committed by family members, friends or caregivers.  In addition to the who and why of this activity, this session will cover the types of scams perpetrated and how credit union staff can help their members by looking for the warning signs of financial exploitation.

Note: The webinar will not be recorded.

Benefits

  • Mitigate member pain point – elderly fraud
  • Provide non-alumni a glimpse into the SCMS experience

Date and Time

March 20, 2024

Speaker

Gail Bright, JD

Gail Bright joined the Kansas Department of Credit Unions in March 2019 and has been in her current role as Financial Examiner Administrator since July 2022.  Her duties include oversight of the examination program, which includes six examiners and 45 state-chartered credit unions, and operations staff.

Before joining the department, Gail worked in compliance and training positions for the Kansas Credit Union Association (now known as Cornerstone Credit Union League) and a Topeka credit union.

Gail is also a licensed attorney, having graduated from the Washburn University School of Law last century.  Most of her career has been in regulatory compliance, including six years as an Assistant Attorney General with Attorney General Carla Stovall’s Consumer Protection Division, and ten years with the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner as an Examiner and Associate General Counsel.

Her undergraduate degree was also obtained from Washburn University (and, no, her career did not go as planned).  She is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Kansas, as well as – because it sounds really cool – the United States Supreme Court.

As a native of basketball-crazy Indiana, she would be happy to talk college basketball with you anytime.
